Everyday Helpers
How do people in our community help us?
Get ready to explore, read, and play! Children learn all the time, and your involvement is crucial. Here you will find the tools you need to support your little learner at home. Here we grow!
This month, children will make cutouts of community helpers and learn about their jobs through books, games, and songs. You will be invited to participate as we celebrate what it means to be an "everyday helper" with a parade.
Hello, Families! Learn what we are talking about each week, and discover some simple activities you can do at home. Literacy is everyday practices, not just something that happens in school.
You can help! In the coming weeks, be on the look-out for volunteer requests, or contact your teacher to learn how you can participate.
Your little ones are growing and learning every day. Notice if they can use shape words to describe objects, name workers in your neighborhood, or perform simple chores at home. Celebrate these accomplishments with a fist bump and "Now that's what a call a fine job!"
From the class line leader to a town firefighter, little learners are discovering that helpers are all around us. This month, we explore everyday jobs in school and in the greater community. We will learn that each worker helps us in different ways.
Your commitment is the key to your little learner's success. Ready to unlock a bright future? Do these daily activities and routines at home!
Shape Hunt
Point to items in your home that are shaped like a square, a rectangle, a triangle, and a circle.
Reading
Look for books about community helpers, such as Whose Hands Are These? by Miranda Paul.
Addition
Use crayons or other small objects to make groups that add up to 5.
Asking Questions
Which community helpers would you like to talk with to find out more about their jobs?
Asking Questions
Ask: Did you solve a problem today? How did you solve it?
Letter Hunt
Write down the names of friends and family members and circle the I's that appear in them.
Drama
How can you act out that you are a firefighter without using any words? What about a doctor? a mail carrier? a bus driver?
Make a List
Write down the letters C, M, and N and think of a community helper that starts with them.
